We read the headlines: so and so, a celebrity, is in hock to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) or some state tax authority for such and such amount. We recognize the names … Ja-Rule, $1 million; Martin Scorsese, $2.85 million; Wesley Snipes, $17 million; Nicolas Cage, $13 million, Lauryn Hill, $1.6 million, Swizz Beatz … Hip-hop producer and husband to soulful singer Alicia Keyes, Swizz Beatz, may prove to be the exception to what seems to be a growing list of celebrities who have adversely heard from a tax man or woman.
Earlier this month, stories began to surface that Beatz, whose real name is Kasseem Dean, owes the state of New York almost $100 thousand for taxes not paid in 2010. The stories also said he owes over $2.5 million to the IRS for unpaid taxes back to 2006. Without missing a beat, Beatz vehemently denied the allegations. Appearing on BET’s “106 & Park,” Beatz at least addressed his alleged New York tax debt, “I don’t have no tax issues. And if I have $100 thousand tax issues then I’m in serious trouble. I’m not really going to speak, but everyone will see what it is.”
And see we have. Shortly after his talk show appearance, Beatz produced documents that seem to show his 2010 bill has been paid in full. The ball appears to now be back in the court of the state of New York.
Recently, Beatz threw a party to honor himself for his continuous charitable efforts, which include preparing charitable events for Thanksgiving.
